- Flower Beds
- Live annual flowers may be planted in a well-defined, well maintained flower bed.
- Flower beds can be no bigger than the marker, or base of the monument that the flower bed is being planted at.
- Flower bed edging is allowed but must be flush with the ground.
- All other decorations placed in flower beds besides live annual flowers and fresh floral bouquets are not allowed between March 15th, and November 15th. This includes any decorative rock.
- After the first hard frost of the season, or after October 15th the cemetery will start fall cleanup. They will mulch over exisiting flower beds, and clean the grounds for the season.
- Fresh Floral Bouquets
- Fresh floral bouquets in approved vases are permitted any time.
- For the safety of all visitors, glass jars and other breakable containers are not allowed.
- For your convenience, you may find approved flower vases by our garages for your use.
- Winter Decorations
- Winter and Christmas decorations are allowed between the dates of November 15th and March 15th.
- After the date of March 15th, decorations are subject to removal.
- Decorations must be tasteful, and not impede on other grave sites.
- The association is not liable for the destruction or removal of decorations. The cemetery personnel will attempt to save decorations placed in the wintertime while clearing a path for a funeral. This is seldom successful because of the frozen ground and snow.

State law for inheritance of cemetery property
The inheritance of cemetery property is governed by a separate Minnesota State Law (Section 525:14). Unless disposed of by a specific designation in a will or by means of a trust agreement the present law (in brief) is as follows:
Upon the death of the lot owner the lot descends to the surviving spouse and to the eldest child. If no surviving children then to the youngest surviving sibling of the deceased. If there is no surviving spouse, child or sibling of the decedent, then, if not sold during the administration of the decedent’s estate, to the cemetery association or private cemetery to be held in trust as a burial lot for such other of the decedent’s relatives as the governing body of the cemetery shall deem proper.
Minnesota State Law requires private non-profit cemeteries such as Union Cemetery to deposit 10% of the sale price of columbariums into a Permanent Care and Improvement Fund. The income from this fund is to provide for the perpetual general care and maintenance of the cemetery.
